oh-nee-tah-mah
an excercise to learn the basics of GDScript and the Godot Engine
oh-nee-tah-mah is a digital adaptation of ‘Onitama’ - the board game designed by Shimpei Sato & published by Arcane Wonders.
I purposefully chose an adpatation as my first endeavour, to keep the focus on learning the tools and keep the design concerns away for the time being.*
the original intent was to build a simple prototype, but I ended up making a fully functional executable, with simple animations and a video-based tutorial.
comparing to later projects, this one came out quite unoptimized; as its web export barely runs on the browser of my smartphone.
that said, I still consider it a success. I learnt a lot while developing it, specially how not to do a lot of things!
if you know someone who also likes deep, abstract, strategy games with simple rules, you might enjoy this.
